About Wonder World Play Centre

Preston, VIC, 3072

Steiner-Inspired Program

Wonder World Play Centre is a childcare and kindergarten for 3-5 year olds in Preston. We have been providing a Steiner-inspired early education program in Preston for over 27 years.

We use Steiner's early childhood philosophy and focus on moral education, build good habits, pay attention to details, and love and care about the natural world.

Our outdoor environment is surrounded by beautiful nature, with many fruit trees, and plants that change through the seasons. Through our natural surroundings, children sense the changes of the natural world all year round in their learning environment. The children are also given the opportunity to experience gardening in their daily routine. Our apple trees produce many apples for children in the autumn.

We have a maximum attendance of not more than 7 children a day. We are a 24-places centre and our service keeps a very high standard to maintain a hygienic and clean environment.

Our Program features:

  • Steiner-inspired program
  • A natural rich learning environment
  • Ethic/moral education
  • Play-based, doing-is-learning approach

Our centre provides food that is:

  • Nutritionally balanced vegetarian food
  • Organic products which we use as much as we can
  • Free apples from our apple trees in the autumn

Learning environment:

  • Small group (15-18 children daily) and home like setting
  • Highly qualified, extremely warm & caring educators
  • Lower staff ratio, 1:8 rather than 1:11
  • Educators play piano and children sing along everyday
  • Excursion to local community places
  • Affordable fee, Lowest fee in region, $ 14.85/day (with maximum subsidy)

Provider Reviews

"My son attended Wonder World Play Centre in 2016 and 2017. Staff are so nice and help children to develop skills and to be kind to each other, his listening skill was greatly improved as well as other skills. He used to get upset easily when he was young, since attending Wonder World Play Centre he gradually becomes calm in any challenge situation and can manage his frustrations. He loves to interact with other people now and always asks many questions. He is eager to learn and happy to communicate with different people. He loved his kinder, often brought fruits from home to share and asked mum to stay for helping classroom activities. We are very happy with this service and will recommend to our friends." -

"All my 3 children have attended the centre over the last 6 years and all absolutely loved it! The centre has greatly improved the facilities over the years and the staff are very friendly and love interacting with the children. My kids all looked forward to attending the centre each week and the program allows for both indoor and outdoor activities and play. My children have all shown great improvements in their listening and practical skills over their time at the centre! Thank you staffs!"

Kathy Barber

"Wonderworld Play Centre has been amazing for our kids… and us! The warm natural environment our kids enjoyed while outside with real nature such as trees, gardens, dirt and chickens has promoted and interest in the world around them that has been nurtured at Wonderworld Play Centre. Our children have enjoyed preparing their lunch at the centre and this has assisted greatly our little fussy eater. Staff are very caring, highly skilled, supportive and accommodating. We have had no regrets with and highly recommend Wonderworld Play Centre".

Yuka Gotohda

"This is the BEST centre, I highly recommend Wonderworld kindergarten. I’ve had my two children both attended Wonderworld centre and I have to say it was the best decision I made for them. Both my children finished and left with confidence, leadership and knowledge. The teachers have helped my sons significantly gain confidence and self independence, while at the same time emphasizing self-discipline and respect towards others, has truly been a heartening experience. The wonderful programs here at centre also help to enrich our kindergarten experience."

Claire
Wonder World is the most lovely little centre. Tucked away off Ford Street in Preston, I was lucky enough to find this hidden gem. The kinder program is Steiner influenced and encompasses many of the Waldorf values and practices. Most items are made from natural materials, like wood, felt, wool, hemp and cotton, staying clear some plastic toys and technology. The centre’s core focus is for children to play and learn through the natural world around them. They also enjoy story telling, music and singing as well as a little library program giving the children new books to take home and read each week! Since my son began here, I have watched his confidence blossom and social skills develop as he frequents the sand pit, helping in the garden and playing in the mud with the other children. I love that the children’s independence is encouraged and they even help to pack away the toys and empty the compost bucket. And if they so choose, can help prepare their healthy vegetarian lunch. Which he enjoys very much! We are so lucky to have the amazing educators here, involved in our child’s kinder years. We love the diverse intimate community that Wonder World has created and encourage you to come and see for yourself the amazing space and care given here.
