About Sunrise Kindergarten And Long Day Care Centre

Fitzroy North, VIC, 3068

Sunrise Preschool and Long Day Care is on the traditional lands of the Wurundjeri People and we pay our respects to their Elders, both past & present.

OUR VISION AND PHILOSOPHY

One of the goals of Sunrise Kindergarten is to develop a feeling of the interconnectedness of all things and to nurture an attitude of love and respect for the environment and everything in it.
The elements of the program are carefully planned to encourage children to deepen their concern for the welfare of others and to extend this to other living things such as animals and plants. In this way they come to realise that all living beings are interrelated and that the welfare of others is inseparable from their own. Through the behaviour of teachers and implementation of the program, the children learn to care for and nourish their environment and
Its inhabitants. Sunrise strives to promote the total growth and development of each child and endeavours to create a suitable environment for this purpose. The environment is warm, loving, stimulating and in keeping with our philosophical ideals.

All interactions with the children and decisions affecting their well-being are based on knowledge of early childhood theories and practices.
The Centre maintains a safe, healthy learning environment. The physical space, materials and routines are arranged in a way that creates an interesting, secure and enjoyable place in which
to learn and grow.  The program allows children to choose from various activities, which provide them with excellent opportunities to gain greater self-mastery of themselves and their environment and to develop physical and mental competence, social skills and universal outlook.

Vision    To create a loving, nurturing learning environment where children explore and develop their unique potential together with their families and our community.

Philosophy  The educational philosophy of Sunrise Kindergarten recognises the importance of learning respect and love for all. It is called Neo-Humanism (NH). The philosophy of Neo-Humanism expands the underlying spirit of humanism or love for fellow beings to encompass love for
animals, plants.
The word Neo means ‘ever new’. In this spirit, a Neo Humanist teacher keeps an open perspective and a universal outlook.  Because we advocate a non-harming attitude towards all living creatures, the NH education follows a sentient vegetarian diet. Mutative foods stimulate the mind and body, tending to make one restless while static foods are not beneficial to the mind and may be harmful to the body.
A sentient diet excludes all meat and meat products, chicken, caffeinated beverages, eggs, fish, shell-fish, onions, garlic, mushroom and fungi, alcohol, tobacco.

Integrated Kindergarten and Long Day Care Program

All programs are available between 8.00 am – 5.45 pm. Sunrise Kindergarten and long daycare is not a sessional kindergarten, children do not need to stay for the entire day however we do recommend a start time between prior to 9am for morning circle to start at 9.15am  and departure time that suits your family and child. We are open 48 weeks of the year, we run integrated  Kindergarten program for 42 weeks of the year and run a long daycare program during school holidays.  We do closed 4 weeks at the end of the year.

Our Integrated Kindergarten Programs

4 year old kindergarten programs are funded and delivered by qualified kindergarten teachers. Our kindergarten program is not sessional but instead is incorporated into our long day care model. The integrated model enables children to access kindergarten throughout the day in a well-paced program. All our early childhood educators contribute equally to the educational program to ensure consistency of education and care throughout the week. The children are given opportunities to develop skills and confidence.  Play is the natural language of children and we provide the time, space and adult guidance for them to develop their language skills in ways that are fun, engaging and motivate children to learn. Our early childhood teachers and educators and families work together to achieve the best outcome for each child.

At the end of the kinder year educators complete an assessment on each child called a ‘Transition statement’. This document is used as a communication tool between the kindergarten teacher, family and prep teacher.  A minimum of 3 days is required.

Our Integrated Kindergarten and Long day care Programs for  3-5 year enables children  to learn and play together throughout the day. A minimum of 2 days required

Benefits for both teachers and children in a 3-5 year old :

·       Younger children are challenged; older children learn to nurture, support and lead others.

·       All children are engaged at play at their own developmental level, which encourages individual differences to be embraced and celebrated.

·       Children develop a connectedness between learning experiences and build co-operative learning skills such as sharing, turn-taking, mentoring and negotiating.

·       Children interact with others who have similar or different capabilities, needs and interests, which in turn deepens and extends their own understanding.

·       Children show increased pro-social behaviour (caring, tolerance, patience, support)

Be aware that this is an estimation. The actual figure will vary depending on the amount of childcare actually attended by your child.

Provider Reviews

The staff, grounds and administration of this childcare are simply amazing. Our interactions with Sunrise staff were professional and personal and far exceeded normal expectations. We really liked the grounds and the set-up of the centre. It was child focused but somehow orderly.-Andrew Boscence
